Getting From Giving

Donors who expect a gift in return for giving are appalling. So-called donor-advised funds are a growing part of this problem, an unnecessary layer between a world of need and people who can help. Does someone have money and want to make a difference? They should cut a check. They shouldn’t park their money in one of these funds because … because of what? They don’t have the time to be compassionate? Let the tax man have his due and stop making this about meeting their own needs … a full deduction for them, a full fee for that fund, and a full shaft for the potential beneficiaries left hanging.
