Man was born free and everywhere you find him in chains? Not really. Man was born into a family and society and everywhere you find him in chains. No one is completely free. “Redistribution” of income is a relative matter. The term implies that there has already been a “distribution”. Some people think that that distribution, which depends on a respect for the human person, as well as on economic and financial mechanisms, is fair and that “redistribution” rewards irresponsibility. In the 50s in the US most people could look forward to retiring in dignity. They imagined that their children would have better lives than they. There was a “middle class”. Not anymore. What happened? We’ve all become irresponsible?
