Local Solidarity Funds
Since the mid-90s, an ever increasing number of individual U.S. donors do more than just write checks to their favorite charities: they manage their philanthropic investments, focus their donations on one or two organizations, contribute professional services to them, and follow their progress closely. The GSF helps small groups of such investor-donors to organize and professionalize themselves. We call each autonomous group of like-minded philanthropists a Local Solidarity Fund.
Each Fund consists of a group of three or more people who agree to invest a minimum of $5,000 per year and, to the extent possible, their professional expertise in one or two civil society organizations of their choosing that adhere to John Paul's social thought. By committing money and a reasonable amount of work to an organization for at least two years, they can make a small but promising organization much better, and, if advisable, much bigger.
A Local Solidarity Fund can concentrate its efforts on one or two organizations located in the U.S. or anywhere else in the world.
If hands-on is what you want, but you understand that two hands are too few, join with a few partners to make your target organization a success. And join a global, informational network of like-minded donors: the Global Solidarity Fund is the hub of the network.
